Mark Van Deusen - Trumpet
I was born a middle child of five in a neighborhood where three families
with a total of 19 kids grew up.
We had plenty to do because we had plenty of land to run on and to help farm. Growing up on an apple farm was hard work but something that still lives in my memory as a time of togetherness with my brothers and sister even though at the time it felt like slave labor. With all the kids in the neighborhood, we had time to dream of being pro Baseball players and making mini bikes and go-carts.I guess my interest in music started the same as a lot of kids, by taking Piano lessons. Going to Mrs. Johnson was not what you would call my favorite thing in the world, and practicing was even worse. But after I got to High school I realized that to be able to play and read music was pretty cool and I'm glad to have been given the chance by my Parents and that little old Piano Teacher. A friend of mine wanted to start a band, not the kind of band a teenager might think of, but a Big Band Dance Band. He needed a Trombonist, and so that is how I started, I guess you could say, my Professional Music Career. We played many places for many things and ended being together for over 10 years. But all good things come to an end, and when it did end I realized how much I missed it. Now for my second life. Another friend of mine, one of my neighbor buddies was playing Trumpet in a band and told me that the other Trumpet guy was leaving, would I be interested. Why sure I would, heck I played trumpet for a whole 2 months in 7th grade before moving to the Trombone. I'm sure the guys in the band would never notice! But he persisted, and I relented, and so here I am 11 years later enjoying the Music again, thanks to the patience and understanding of my Wife and I guess the willingness of Greg Crowe and Jim Cunningham of giving me a chance.
